Warringah Concert Brass Inc.
Warringah Concert Brass is a British-style brass band based in the northern suburbs of Sydney, Australia. In 2004 we celebrated our 25th Anniversary!
Warringah Concert Brass comprises some thirty players who come from all over the Sydney Metropolitan area. Our players include engineers, vet surgeons, accountants, teachers, business consultants and many more. The band was established by the original Musical Director, Jack Saunders, in 1979 from the Terrey Hills Primary School Band, now one of the few school bands to survive as a real brass band in the Sydney area. Warringah Concert Brass rose through the grades rapidly under his baton, to its present position. The organisation has Training, Youth (under 19 years) and Senior bands. Both Youth and Senior bands are now conducted by champion euphonium player and adjudicator, John Saunders.
Since its origins in 1979, the band has developed to a consistently high standard by contesting annually at every NSW and National Brass Band contest. In 1997, contesting for the very first time in A-grade, Warringah won a very competitive 4th place at the Australian National Championships in Newcastle. In 1999, Jack Saunders retired from his position as Musical Director, and his son, John, assumed the position. In that year, Jack was named "Warringah Citizen of the Year" in recognition of his outstanding contribution to music and the youth of the Warringah area.
