Kaylie Dunstan

Kaylie's first musical encounter was learning the flugel horn from the local brass band conductor. It was believed that Kaylie would one day follow in the foot steps of her male family members, well-established in the brass band world. However this jouney was slow in beginning since Kaylie could not learn any brass method without reading music (she was at the innocent age of 3). Instead Kaylie went on to learn violin, which she only managed to shake off in early high school. Luckily, a certain brass entrepreneur who took the primary school band recognised the talent in Kaylie just waiting to be unleashed and as there are always vacancies, Kaylie found her true calling in the percussion section. The point of no return was the tonic-dominant passage she belted out on the timpani in Indiana Jones, Raiders of the last arc. Kaylie's future was set. Every Saturday throughout her high-school career, her and her dad made the 1 and a half hour trip from Wollongong to Wahroonga to learn from Iain Scotland. Now Kaylie is studying her Bachelor of Music Degree at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, learning from the likes of Daryl Pratt and Richard Miller of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Whenever she can, Kaylie joins us to create mischief in the percussion section and participate in interesting and innovative concerts.
