WCB & SSB combine to take on Rocky

On Sat 17th February, 2007 Warringah Concert Brass and Sutherland Shire Brass combined to take centre stage at the Australian premiere of the film, ROCKY BALBOA.
20th Century Fox engaged the two bands after organisers of the event and management reviewed recordings and loved the brass band sound.

The star of the Rocky films, Sylvester Stallone, was greeted to the stage by a fanfare from the combined bands of "Gonna Fly Now" (the Rocky theme).

The event was held at Sydney’s Open-Air Cinema, with the stunning back drop of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The 1200 tickets to the premiere on February 17th, 2007 sold out within 27 minutes.

This was a great opportunity for both bands to get wider exposure at such a high profile media event.

WCB wins 2006 Battle of the Bands

WCB makes it three in a row!!!!

Warringah Concert Brass today won the Grand Final of the NSW Battle of the Bands taking the title for the third year in succession.

With John Saunders being unavailable for the contest due to work commitments, Darren Cole stepped in as Guest Music director.

The band incorporated Choreography, comedy, audience participation and fine brass music to win the event which centres on the band’s entertainment abilitites.

Other finalists competing on the day were Waratah Brass, Castle Hill RSL Youth Band and Parramatta City Band.

This has been a very successful year for WCB starting with an overall 2nd place in the Open B grade at the National Championships in Brsibane, then an outright win in both sections of the East Coast Championships in Newcastle in June. In August, WCB was promoted to A Grade.

Since October 2004 WCB has competed in nine contests, winning seven and being placed second in two.
