Cornet

I started as an 8 year old with the lofty expectations of becoming the world's greatest flute player. I tried out for that particular woodwind (ugh!) instrument, and landed the highly prized place of lead flute in the primary school concert band. Pleased as punch, I came home from school that day and showed my parents my new instrument.

Dad took one look at the flute and declared that I wasn't going to play the flute - he wanted me to pick an instrument we could both learn to play together. So the next night I came home with the trumpet. And the rest (as they say) is history.

Primary school concert band, trumpet, grade 3 & 4; Middle school concert band, French horn, grades 5 & 6; High school concert bands I and II, trumpet, tympani, percussion, grades 7 through 12, 1989-1995; Penny and the Vets, Stage Band, Trumpet: 1999-2000.

[I owe my entry into Warringah Concert Brass and the brass banding world in general to Gabrielle Cambridge (stand up and take a bow Gabi!)]

Warringah Concert Brass Junior, Cornet 1992- 1995; Warringah Concert Brass Senior, Cornet 1992-1995, 2001-present;

Belles of Brass, 2nd Cornet: 2003.

Pacific Brass, 3rd Cornet, founding member: 2001-present (and really enjoyed playing in Pacific accompanying Roger Webster from Black Dyke last year!)

NSW Fire Brigade Brass Band, 3rd Cornet: 2003-present, and in '06 toured the USA with them.

I have also contested and won at both metropolitan and state levels in small ensemble work.

Oh, and PS - Dad got a cold sore the first time he played the trumpet and hasn’t touched it since!
