Stephen Wood

Stephen has had a 12 year history playing brass instruments. In WCB he primarily plays the EEb Tuba which he has played for 9 years. Playing the Euphonium and Baritone at high School constituted 3 years. He has performed in a variety of Metropolitan, State and National Championships and Solo events. Just last June he was part of a Quartet of Tubas that took first place in the Open Quartet at the 2003 State Championships.

Bands other than WCB that Stephen has played with include:
The International Wind Orchestra during January 2003, Pan Pacific Music Camps held in Collaroy.
Greenhall Band, based in Gorebridge, West Lothian, Scotland.
Davidson High School Concert Bands 1 & 2

Other activities Stephen has been involved in include acting as Secretary of WCB from 2001-2003 and also playing with Greenhall Band in the Scottish National Championships held during March 2000 at Walker Halls, Troon.

Stephen most enjoys playing band hymns (especially the way Warringah play them), many Test Pieces (English Heritage gets biggest thumbs up) and enjoys undertaking or performing Tuba Solo work, especially such favourites as Bass in the Ballroom, Impromtu for Tuba, Tubby the Tuba and the famous Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto (the latter a truly amazing piece of work).

Stephen’s profession is almost as rare and unusual as the instrument he plays, a Geologist with an oil exploration company. He spends time attempting to encourage more students to study this interesting and vital profession.
